Chain gangs

The usual suspects on the chain gang. Sledge hammers not required.

Once you’ve cut your teeth on a few Club Runs you may like to try your hand at one of our regular Tuesday night Chain Gangs.

Chain gangs every Tuesday starting on 4th April all summer from the clocks going forward until the end of August, 6.30 pm at Abbrook.

We set off from Abbrook in two groups if we have the numbers (faster and slower) and head up the Teign Valley at a hard but steady pace. At the end of the valley we split into 2, 3 or 4 groups for the fast blast back down with the fastest group starting last. Total ride length is approx 25 miles

Format

After a brief warm-up we start going through and off. See www.gregarios.co.uk/cycling-clubs/chain-gang-through-and-off.html for how it works.

Who are they for?

Many people use them as a high intensity training session for road races, time trials or cyclo-cross. But they are also quite addictive in themselves. Blasting along the Teign Valley at race pace is pretty good fun! Although everyone is welcome to come along and give the chain gangs a try, most people attending regularly are from the A, B or C club runs. Unlike on the club runs we generally don’t wait for people (except for the first few miles & to regroup at the end of the valley)

At the end of the ride you can see how you’ve done on the Club Strava feed

We will try and add in some variation with occasional trips to the Velopark. We may also do some Doccombe “specials” where instead of coming back down the Valley we have an all out effort over Doccombe and come back through the Wray Valley to Bovey Tracey.
