Cyclo Cross at Plymouth City Moto Park

Wednesday evening saw the second race in the 3Sixty Performance Summer Cyclo Cross Series at Plymouth City Moto Park. The good weather had really dried out the course providing a hard packed circuit with many tight turns, frequent short steep climbs and ruts to negotiate. Representing MDCC were Alan Drury (Veteran), Ashton Spence (Senior) and Steve Hodgson (Senior).

Clearly, the feedback from the first event had got around as the field featured a couple of riders looking for good results at national level. In attendance were Dextor Hurlock (Mondraker UK) tuning up for the national MTB events over the next couple of weekends, Steve Davies (Ex national Veteran CX Champion) and Tim Carpenter (Elite Velo and winner of the veteran south west championship) and Maddie Horton (Fully Sussed, also tuning up for MTB nationals). The rest of the field had their work cut out to keep up!

A good start was essential and the MDCC riders and Alan and Ashton made the best of a good grid position. As expected the high quality field made a fast start and pulled away over the first lap. The MDCC pair soon established their position and had a race long battle with Paul Sole (Kernow Riders) to finish fourth and fifth in their categories. Steve wasn’t far behind and came in eighth senior rider.

The last race in the series takes place on Wednesday the 13th of August. The format will be a little different as it will be run in a pursuit format with the fastest riders starting last, should be interesting. So put the date in your diary now to avoid missing this excellent form building opportunity for the coming season!
