Race Report: Velopark Thursday Series – Event 9 – 28th July

The 4’s only race saw a breakaway of two riders from the gun. Building up a steady advantage until the end they worked well together until Ron Daniels from Exeter Wheelers attacked Frank Schirnhofer from Bikechain Ricci in the final lap to take the win. Jason Burkett from the Mid Devon took 3rd in the bunch kick with Brad James, Will Thurgood and Stewart Dunn also from the promoting club coming 6th, 9th and 10th respectively   IMG_2312

The 2/3 race again saw an early break with the in form Matt Langworthy from Mid Devon CC quickly disappearing off  up the track with Sam Woods from Plymouth Corries and Tim Southcombe from Somerset RC. Despite the bunch trying to bring them back, the chase wasn’t organised and the three built up a steady advantage. Matt made it 4 wins from his past 4 races on the road winning the sprint from Sam Woods. Sam Birkinshaw from Exeter Wheelers took the bunch gallop  for 4th with the Mid Devons Andrew Parker, Dave Johnson and Ashley Towey finishing 7th, 9th and 10th IMG_2315

Due to popular demand from the regions 1st cat riders, an extra event was added to the evening at short notice.  A high pace from the the off saw Team Tor’s James Williams and James Porter with Dan Mcquillan from Tri UK build a steady advantage with Pete Haworth and Charlie Revell just behind. A very close sprint saw James Williams just beating James Porter with Dan third.  Mid Devon CC evergreen Andy Hitchens stepped up to make the numbers in this race taking 8th overall. The winners were so excited after the race that they couldn’t resist some larking around on the Mid Devon podium as below!
