16th July 2016 – Torbay RU Training Youth A Crit

On Saturday I travelled to the Velopark to compete in a 40min Youth A crit. I was looking forward to racing as I hadn’t raced in a few weeks so I was excited to see how I got on after some tough training I had done recently. All pinned up with my numbers I started my 20 min warm up on my rollers. I always leave myself 15 mins before the start of any race to have a few laps around the track (If we are allowed). I then headed over to the line to get a debrief from the comms before the race. 3,2,1 we’re off. 3rd corner I made my way up to the front of the group and put in an effort on the front and actually went off the front on my own without anyone following me. I thought to myself ‘okay this is just going to be a TT effort’ and tried to pace myself for the rest of the 40 mins of the race, Which I managed to do beating my 10 mile TT time by 20 seconds on a road bike when previously my 10 mile TT time was set on a TT bike. Was a pretty lonely race as I was on my own for the whole time but was very happy with the end result!

19th July Westpoint Youth A Race

After a great result on the previous Saturday at the VeloPark I thought i’d have another shot at Westpoint. I had never raced at Westpoint before and was looking forward to it, especially because it had a slight incline towards the finish line. All signed on and with my numbers pinned to the skin suit I started my 20 min warm up exactly the same as what I did on the Saturday at the VeloPark. 20 Min warm up complete I made my way to the line where I saw some new races that I had never seen before. This would only be a 30 min race this time. We set off as a large ish group and stayed together for most of the race with a few attacks going off but nothing lasting more than 3 laps. At around 20 mins I knew that there was no way that any attacks would be able to last so I just sat in with the group and did some work. 1 lap to go… It was going to be a sprint for the line. Last comer I was on CS Dynamo rider Corey Bale with MDCC rider Harrison Wood just behind me, I launched my sprint pretty late after letting Corey go early and me just sitting on his wheel until about 50 meter to go I went passed him to take another win!
