Westpoint – 1st September Race Result

Andrew Parker claimed second place in the 3/4 final Westpoint evening event of 2015. Parker was part of a strong Mid Devon team of six riders who took the start line of the testing 800 metre circuit, which features a repeated short climb and hairpin corners.

The winning move formed in the first five minutes of racing with Parker going clear with Adrian Sluman Plymouth Corinthians and Ashley Towey Mid Devon CC who were quickly joined by Gavin Mc Dougall of Tavistock Wheelers and Adam Sainsbury of Exeter Wheelers. At half distance the pace took its toll on Sainsbury who dropped back to the bunch.

With the break lapping at 26mph they were soon half a lap ahead of the bunch and were never to be seen again. Alex Blackburn MDCC was unlucky to puncture both wheels and came down on the hairpin corner and Tim Prowse took to the grass to avoid the carnage losing the shelter of the bunch in the process.

With five laps to go the leading quartet sprung into action and it was Parker who was putting in the attacks to split the group but Sluman was having none of it. Into the final corner and Sluman accelerated hard into the finishing hill claiming the win with Parker 2nd, Towey 3rd and Mc Dougall in 4th. Craig Hickson and Nick Weddall sealed a good evening for the club by coming home in 6th and 7th positions.

Whilst Parker gears up for the first race of the South West Cyclo Cross season, Towey leads a select group of Mid Devon riders in Exeter Wheelers hilly Rockbeare Road Race
